Physician Salary (Germany)
Employed physicians in Germany typically earn 65,000 to 95,000 euros per year, with senior physicians above 110,000 and practice owners above 150,000.
Overview
Hospital pay follows the collective agreement with the physicians' union, Marburger Bund: residents start around 60,000 to 70,000, and progression through specialist and senior-physician tiers lifts experienced doctors well into six figures. Owning an ambulatory practice, capped by statutory health-fund licensing, is the traditional wealth path. The contrast with the United States is debt: German medical education is nearly tuition-free, so the lower gross starts from zero. Figures are indicative from tariff tables and surveys.
