Minimum Wage in France
France's statutory minimum, the SMIC, runs around 1,770 euros gross per month in 2024, roughly 21,000 euros per year full-time.
Overview
The salaire minimum interprofessionnel de croissance is indexed by law, rising automatically with inflation and also by government decree, which makes it one of the most protected floors in Europe. Gross hourly pay sits around 11.65 euros. The rate covers the large majority of the workforce with fewer exemptions than peers, and youth under 18 and apprentices see minor reductions. Its level is high by EU comparison, feeding a permanent competitiveness debate alongside strong purchasing-power politics. Figures are approximate 2024 values and change with each decree.
