Minimum Wage in Germany
Germany's statutory minimum wage stands around 12.40 euros per hour in 2024, about 2,100 euros monthly gross for full-time work.
Overview
Germany legislated its first general minimum wage only in 2015, a landmark after years of belief that collective bargaining alone sufficed. A commission of employer and union representatives recommends steps, and the 2024 raise to 12.41 euros followed high inflation. Coverage is broad, with sectoral agreements often sitting above the floor, and there is no general youth sub-rate. East-west wage convergence has progressed substantially since 2015. Figures are approximate 2024 values.
