Minimum Wage in Canada
Canadian provincial minimum wages in 2024 generally run 15 to 17 Canadian dollars per hour, with most provinces indexing annual increases.
Overview
Labor law is provincial, so floors differ: British Columbia and Ontario set rates in the 16 to 17 dollar range, prairie and Atlantic provinces cluster lower, and most provinces now index automatically to inflation. The federal rate, applying to banks, telecom and other regulated sectors, reached 17.30 dollars in 2024 and moves with the provincial median. Nunavut's high cost of living gives it the country's highest floor. Figures are approximate 2024 posted rates.
