Minimum Wage in India
India's minimum wages vary by state and skill, commonly in the range of 200 to 500 rupees per day, with a pending national unification code.
Overview
The 2019 Code on Wages aims to consolidate multiple laws and set a national floor, but implementation has moved slowly. In practice, state-set daily rates govern, differentiated by skill and industry, and enforcement is weak in the vast informal sector that employs most Indian workers. Statutory floors also differ between agricultural and non-agricultural work. For migrant and casual labor, actual earnings frequently fall below paper minimums. Figures cited are approximate recent state rates.
